Sew Busy!

OK...OK...I have been feeling guilty about not posting anything since Christmas, but we have been busy! Eric and Max got me a sewing machine for Christmas and I have been having so much fun! I've been working on lots of different projects. I have to give credit to some awesome women out there that have amazing blogs with step by step tutorials for all sorts of things. Between what I can remember from my costume construction days at SAM (which was 1 class and 1 semester of costume crew), these tutorials and some youtube videos, I've been able to come up with some fun stuff! (Most of these pictures are from my iphone, so they aren't the best quality.

This was the first thing that I sewed...was really easy. I've found a different way to do the handles and am just waiting to find the right fabric! I also think that it would be good to do one side in flannel for the winter time.

These are a couple of taggie blankets that I made. My cousin, who is a farmer, had a little boy in October and I found this John Deere fleece in the remnant bin. I have a lot left over, so if you know of anyone that wants one...let me know!

These are some pants I made for Max. I bought this fabric (they're little monkeys in space with rockets) a long time ago thinking that I would make a blanket for him, but the pants are a lot cuter! They are a little big, but that just means he'll be able to wear them longer. BTW, I love this picture. He was waving a piece of paper around and it looks like he has nunchucks or something. And the expression on his face is priceless.

And my first attempt at applique...of course, an adorable penguin for my little man (Max, not Eric). I thought it turned out pretty cute, but I need to work on my round edges!

This one was fun. It is a purse made out of an old sweater. One of the things that I love on one of the blogs I've been following is how she re-purposes a lot of stuff. I added the 'd' on front just to personalize it a bit. Went to Goodwill and scored a couple more sweaters, just have to find the time to make the bags!

This one is cool, but one of the more time consuming projects. It's a little lunch bag made out of plastic shopping bags fused together with the iron. It was supposed to make a regular size re-usable shopping back, but I couldn't get the pieces big enough, so I just scaled it down.

Oh, and burp rags...I've made a lot of these. They are so soft. These are made with some initials on them.

The second shirt that I made for Max. I've been wanting a shirt like this for a long time and finally, I just made it. The Texas is appliqued on. So cute!

And these are the first two critters in the Angry Birds family that I'm making for a special little boy in Texas. Shhh...it's a surprise!

So, that's what I've been up to (there are other things I've been doing, just haven't taken pictures of them all). I will be posting more pictures of other things I do in the future. I am going to try my hand at quilting, but I have to get a different presser foot for my machine. Now, I know you all don't care about me, you read the blog to see what Max is up to and let me just say...he is up to EVERYTHING. The boy doesn't stop. He isn't bad, he just goes and goes and goes...kinda like an Energizer Bunny! So, when he slows down, climbs in your lap and sits there you know...he either feels bad or is VERY tired. Either way, I love him more than anything and he is so funny!  Before we get into the fun stuff, a little update. We went back to the allergist at the beginning of January and he was happy with the improvement in Max's eczema. It was time for the food challenges. We were going to do peanuts and eggs that day. We started with the peanuts since they had the peanut butter right there and would have to wait for awhile to get eggs from the hospital cafeteria. What they do is spread some peanut butter on his back and let it sit for about 15 minutes to see if there is any reaction. He had a little bit of redness around it so they tried another spot. He started to get some hives where the peanut butter was. The doctor came in and said he wanted to take it to the next step which is putting some on top of his lip. So, he walked around for about 10 minutes with a peanut butter moustache. Didn't seem to phase him, so doc decided to feed him some peanut butter. He ate a cracker with some on it and ate about a spoonful of it. Lost interest for awhile, but didn't seem to have any sort of reaction. The nurse was feeding some more and all of a sudden his hands were just scarlet red. He all of a sudden just went from running up and down the halls to being very clingy. His hives were starting to get worse and his eyes were getting really purple and puffy underneath. They gave him some oral antihistamine and that didn't seem to be working very quickly, so they gave him the epi shot. After he threw up all down my shirt and on himself, twice, everything started clearing up. So, we got tutored on how to administer the epi pen and were sent on our way. Unfortunately, we have to go back to do the egg test. Since he tested positive to one test and was given an antihistamine they cannot do another test in the same day. So, Max and I go back on Monday to do round 2. Other than that, he has just been going crazy...unloading anything he can open-drawers, cabinets, plastic tubs- climbing on anything he can get onto-coffee table, toilets, plastic tubs-he is just a busy, busy boy!
Another big milestone today...Max got his first haircut courtesy of Grandma Connie! We didn't take much off...just trimmed around his ears and shaped up the back. It's amazing how a couple of little snips can make such a difference. He looks as adorable as ever (if not more), but he looks a little older and some of that baby is gone. A little sad that my boy keeps getting bigger.

He likes climbing into his toy bin and sitting with his toys. Used to have trouble getting out, but now it's a breeze.

Grandma Borden made the whole family matching jammies for Christmas. He we are in ours!

Max LOVES being in the kitchen! His favorite is unloading the cans and stacking them in the drawers. I've only had one fall on my toes so far!

He loves riding his zebra...he can finally crawl on and off of it by himself.

And he likes to climb ON TOP of it as well! Maybe he's gonna be a rodeo clown! :)

He has taken a liking to his rocking dinosaur as well...he can really get going on it!

He loves climbing the stairs...he thinks it's a game. He is really good at going up and down, but we have had a few tumbles. Nothing major...I think it scared the both of us more than anything. He has a little bruise on his leg, but that hasn't stopped him for one second. He just gets so excited because he thinks it's a game when you come after him to get him and starts bouncing...sometimes, he just loses his balance. And yes, we do have a baby gate, the only one that will fit on our weird stairs and he just pulls it down.

He LOVES LOVES LOVES running around naked. And, yes, he'll pee in the corner on occasion, thinking it is the most hilarious thing in the world. The boy is just crazy, but he is so damn cute that it's hard to get upset.

And more climbing on the stairs!

He has so much fun climbing (go figure...I told you he doesn't stop) on the computer chair and playing with the computer. Some day a random package is going to just show up on our door step!

Oh, look! He has climbed ON TOP of his leap frog table. He thinks that this is so fun! I am amazed at how god he is at climbing down. He really knows how to shift his balance when he starts to lose it.

Me and my little man. I don't remember taking this picture...probably early one Saturday morning while we were watching the Vh1 video countdown...that's our Saturday routine!

And here is proof that he will get into anything he can get his hands on. Yep, that's almost a whole box of spaghetti noodles that he was just having so much fun with.

I probably shouldn't, but I let him play for a few minutes. Good thing was that he was finally able to throw something away in the trashcan. Yes, we have lost some items in our house and after not being able to find them, I am convinced that he snuck them into the trashcan and my favorite hairbrush falls into this category!

This is a new one! What do you think he is eyeing from that second step?

Why, yes, it would be the light switch. Our stair well turns into a disco in the evenings!

Hey! What is Max doing? Yep, he's CLIMBING into the drawer. Now, this drawer is special because I put it's contents in a plastic bin so they wouldn't be spread everywhere in the kitchen. What he had
done was climbed on top of the bin and was looking up on the counter for something to grab. This kid is insane.

We've been out to eat a few times in the past couple of weeks and have decided to try the booster seat in a booth with him. He does pretty well. Doesn't try to climb on the table too much! :) But, I think he eats a lot better and has a lot more fun.

And here is a very rare moment where he climbed up in Eric's lap and was just cuddly. Yes, he did have a fever this night...due to teething I think.

And here is my shaggy boy today (Saturday, 1/29) before his haircut!

Snip-Snip!

He really did well-no screaming-not too much squirming...probably helped that Daddy was feeding him cookies! :)

And, finally, my two handsome men. Eric is freshly shaven and Max has a cute haircut. I love these guys!

I will try to be better about posting a bit more frequently!
