34 Weeks Old

What a week! I think this has probably been one of, if not the hardest week since Max was born. Yes, I was a single, stay at home mom this week to a sick little boy. But, before I talk about that, I wanted to just say that we had a great weekend last weekend. Saturday, we enjoyed a dinner with some friends at a new Mexican restaurant that opened up here in town and it was pretty good...the restaurant, the time with friends was great! I especially enjoyed my first margarita in well over a year! Max enjoyed a lemon. He had the funniest look on his face when he would suck it, but he kept reaching for more. Then, on Sunday we had a nice day with Eric's family for Father's Day. Grandma and Grandpa Wilbanks came over as well as Aunt Susan, Uncle Time and Sophie and Ellie. We grilled steaks and just had a nice visit all afternoon. Once everyone left, we all took naps and then that is when things started to turn south. Max just wasn't himself that night and was running a fever of 100.4 for most of the night. I wasn't sure if it was teething or what, but he didn't sleep well at all. We were up with him all night. So, Monday morning, I called and took him in to see the doctor. I had noticed a little rash on his hands, but thought that might be from the fever. Well, the doctor took one look at him and said he had Hand, Foot, Mouth virus. UGH! He also had an ear infection as well. So, she said he had to stay home for the week from daycare because that is how long he can be contagious. Gave us an antibiotic for the ear infection and a steroid to try and open up his airways and help with the congestion. And, we were sent on our merry way to get better. Poor little guy was just not feeling well at all. He would half-heartedly play and then just lie down on the floor where he was. We let him sleep with us that night and early Tuesday morning, Eric got up to leave for Boston. Not long after that, Max got up. Tuesday and Wednesday weren't bad. He took good 2 hour naps in the morning and afternoon. He was getting plenty of rest and I could tell that he was starting to feel better. Especially on Thursday when he only took a couple of 30 minute naps. I think it was Monday and Tuesday mornings that we woke up to thunderstorms. Pretty crazy. Wednesday was nice and it was our only outing this week...we went to Hyvee to get some deals at the 'Dollar Days' sale. That afternoon, we had another thunderstorm and then just as Max and I had fallend asleep for an afternoon snooze, the sirens went off. So, I scooped up the boy and headed downstairs to the basement. I flipped on the tv and it looked like there was no bad weather left for our area. It had passed us and was headed east. We stayed down there for a little while, Max was asleep the entire time and then we came upstairs and went about our evening. Thursday, some friends of mine came over for a visit and margaritas. It was so nice to have adult conversation. Eric got home tonight and we are so happy. Of course, Max was already asleep, but I think he'll be surprised when he wakes up and Daddy is here. He is feeling back to his normal self now. It will be good for him to get back to school and Mommy to get back to work. I loved having so much time with him, but it's tough when you're on your own. I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful husband and partner to raise this family with! Oh! He is about to cut his other top front tooth and when I was looking at it yesterday, I noticed that the two eyeteeth are about to come through as well. So, he is going to have four teeth across the top pretty soon. I can't believe how fast they are coming now. He's great...as long as he has something to chomp on, he's ok.
Since I was home this week, I was able to take lots of pictures...here are the ones that made the cut!

Max and Mommy

I love how Eric takes pictures instead of helping me...Max had 2 handfuls of hair!

Mommy's Little Man

Per my Mom's request, here is a picture of me when I was a baby next to Max. I was younger in my picture than Max is in his, but I think it makes the point. His face is a little more round, but we have the same ears, eyes and nose...at least I think so!
Our weekly blog update is the post after this one in case you haven't seen it yet!

33 Weeks Old

I LOVE OUR NEW CAMERA!!!! Just look at that picture! Amazing. OK, enough of that!
Well, we had a little bit of a rough weekend last weekend. Max had a pretty nasty cold and was trying to cut another tooth. The darn thing finally cut on Sunday, I think. He now has one top front tooth and two bottoms.  He's such a trooper though. He really wasn't too upset...he slept a lot, but didn't let the crud get to him too much. On Saturday, we went to have pancakes at the North Liberty Fun Days. It was a little rainy, but the pancakes were oh so good! Max decided that he wanted to try some orange juice right when we sat down so he and Mommy were pretty sticky the whole time. After we finished eating and visiting with the Vavras, we came home and washed off all of the stickiness. Other than taking in a few garage sales around the neighborhood, we didn't do anything the rest of the weekend. The nights were toughest for Max. That's when he would cough and wake himself up. Saturday night was pretty bad. Eric and I had to take turns sleeping on the couch with him so that he was propped up. He would sleep better and cough less that way. We tried to put him in his swing like we did when he was smaller, but he was having none of that! I kept him home still on Monday just to give him another day to rest and he did really well! Unfortunately, we have had a relapse with the thrush. We are doing another round of the meds and I hope that clears it all up this time. I have taken up all of his toys and sanitized them and put them away in bins until his mouth clears up (because everything goes in his mouth). I have only a few out for him to play with and I clean them every night as well as rotating his rags and blankets because he chews on all of those too.
The biggest event this week was that Max started a swim class. We enrolled with some of our friends for a 4 week class. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves so far. I don't think Max quite knew what to think of it the first day, but the second day he was having much more fun splashing around and kicking under the water.
Other than that, not much going on this week. Last night, I told Eric that he needed to get up with Max when he woke up in the middle of the night (usually around 2:30) and of course, that boy slept until 6:30 this morning. Oh well...I hope that is a sign of things to come. It sure was nice not to have to get up for an hour in the middle of the night, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.
This weekend we are going to celebrate Father's Day with Eric's dad and family. Plans are to have a grill out and just enjoy the day with family. I hope it doesn't rain.
Wishing all of you a Happy Father's Day and Max is sure to have something extra special for his Daddy!

This was the scene last weekend as he was trying to get another tooth through!
Looking out the front door.

He loves playing with laundry baskets...and pulling out my folded laundry
